Whilst in Torres del Paine National Park last year I spent three days with a guide seeking out wild puma (from a safe distance). They are not easy to find despite the area having the highest density of pumas on the planet. They are well camouflaged in the brown grasslands. I was glad to have the guides eyes and tracking skills. We found and followed four different pumas, often near herds of guanaco which are their primary food source. The guanaco have sentinels on watch and make an alarm call if there is a puma around. Seeing the puma up close was a very special experience – they are amazing!
