Monarch butterflies have just been catergorized as “endangered” – two steps from extinction on the IUCN “red list”. Many of us have grown up captivated and delighted by the fascinating life cycle of these colourful insects. Who hasn’t been thrilled to watch the black-yellow-lime green striped caterpillars with their voracious appetites, transform into a gold ringed chrysalis, and then burst forth as a spectacular orange-red butterfly. They can migrate extraordinary distances. Have you noticed they have white polka dot bodies? Here’s my way of paying homage to these wonderful travellers that are currently visiting my garden.
