A scenic 20 minute walk on the west coast of Golden Bay, New Zealand takes you to the iconic and spectacular Wharariki Beach made globally famous by its selection as a Microsoft screensaver image. Crowds now flock there, but if you time it right you can still have the beach pretty much to yourself. Visiting there in the 1990’s, when I lived in Nelson, hardly anyone had heard of it. With it’s rolling sand dunes and towering archway islands, coupled with beautiful sunrises and sunsets it’s not hard to see why people want to visit for their instagram shot. Here’s my selection.
